Before World War II, the place was called Chib. With the arrival of colonists from Bosnia in 1946, the place was changed to Čelarevo in memory of the national hero Zdravko Čelar (1917-1942). At the very entrance to Čelarevo, there is one of the castles of the once famous Dunđerski family. The castle complex on the manor was built in the second half of the 18th century. From the end of the 19th century until the First World War, it was a meeting place for prominent political and cultural figures of that time. Among others, Nikola Tesla, Paja Jovanović, Stevan Todorović visited the castle, and King Aleksandar Karađorđević also stayed for a while. In Celarevo (12 km from Backa Palanka), the largest necropolis in Vojvodina was discovered with graves from the 8th and 9th centuries and extraordinary finds (gold and other precious jewelry, weapons and tools), today the famous archeological site "Chibska Suma". In the village there is a beer factory Karlsberg, as well as the football club CSK Pivara. The beer museum in Čelarevo is located within the Carlsberg company, and was opened in 2008 as part of the brewery's founder Lazar Dundjerski.

THE CASTLE OF THE DUNĐER FAMILY IN ČELAREVO

Of the monumental values of the municipality, the Dundjerski castle in Čelarevo is certainly important.

From 1834-1837, Nikola Beseredi built the Castle. The builders were Amman and Hoffman.

1882 It was bought by Count Lazar Dundjerski, a landowner from Sombor. In the same year, he built a steam mill and a spirit factory. 1884 He managed to clear half of the park and on the right side, not far from the Palace, he built a brewery and planted hop gardens. Laza Kostić and Paja Jovanović came to the castle. Laza Kostić was the godfather of all the children of Laza Dundjerski. In his later years, he fell in love with Lenka Dundjerski, who died in Vienna in 1895. Out of that unfulfilled love, the song Santa Maria della Salute remained. The building was built in the form of a summer house and in the neoclassical style from the beginning of the 19th century. It used to house a collection of period furniture from the territory of Vojvodina. Today, the restored furniture is in the Vojvodina Museum in Novi Sad.

The small or "old" castle is a ground floor building with a rectangular base, located to the left of the entrance to the park. It was built in 1798. On the courtyard side is a porch that rests on slender wooden pillars with decoratively decorated capitals. In the central part of the street facade there is a shallow risalit with three windows. The side right wing has three prouors, and the left one. The windows have protective grilles made of solid, iron, corrugated bars. The attic wreath is decorated with small circular openings with rosettes. The high roof is on two waters, and it is cut on the narrower sides. The great castle has a French park in front and an English park in the back. It is a prominent example of classicist architecture in Vojvodina. The front facade is decorated with a portico with 4 Doric pillars, a tympanum and a staircase. On the left and right side of the main entrance on the front side of the castle, there is a niche that has the same height and semicircular finish as the opening for the front door. The main façade has 4 windows on each side, which have a flat profiled window sill supported by consoles. Under the window there is a rectangular recess in which there are 6 ornaments in the form of balusters. The conception shows a relatively simple solution. The central part is protruding in front of the front of the west facade, in the middle there is an exit to the park in the form of a double door, which leads to the terrace. To the left and right of this risalit, there are three windows, equally decorated as the windows on the front of the castle.

2000 and 2003 - The furniture of the castle and the facade of the building itself were restored. In 1970, it was placed under protection as a cultural monument of exceptional importance.
